What it does

Built for real kitchens, not spreadsheets

Most food trackers fail because they ask you to weigh, scan, and log every spoonful. Cheekful works the way you already talk about food.

Quick updates

Rough levels, not exact measurements

Nobody measures how much milk is left in the jug. For things you pour or scoop, slide to full, mostly full, half, low, or empty. For things you count, like eggs or avocados, tap how many you used.

If life gets busy and you skip a week, nothing breaks. There are no streaks to lose and no nagging alerts telling you to catch up.

Fridge, freezer, and pantry

Check any shelf from the store aisle

Organize your kitchen by where things actually live: fridge, freezer, pantry, spice cabinet, or an extra freezer in the garage. Before you toss another bag of frozen peas into the cart, you can check what's buried at the bottom in two seconds.

Each spot shows what's fresh and what needs using soon, and you can arrange your Home screen around the places you check most.

Grocery list

A shopping list that already knows what ran out

Whenever you mark something low or empty at home, Cheekful suggests it under Need it? on your grocery list. One tap adds it to your trip. When you get home, tap Put away and everything you checked off goes straight into your fridge and pantry.

Planning a meal? Add a recipe's missing ingredients to your list in one tap, with a note reminding you which dish they're for. On Android, your list also lives on your home screen as a widget.

Expiration reminders

Use up fresh food before it turns

Items closest to going bad float to the top automatically, so berries and greens don't get forgotten behind the condiments. If you want a nudge, one morning notification at a time you choose tells you what needs eating soon, instead of buzzing your phone for every single yogurt.

Recipes

Decide dinner from what's already in the house

Save your favorite recipes from a link, a screenshot, or a quick note. Make tonight on your Home screen matches them against what you have on hand and highlights meals that use up ingredients before they spoil.

Tap Let's cook it for step-by-step instructions that keep your screen awake, with built-in timers right inside each step. Out of tamari? It spots the soy sauce in your pantry. When you finish, I made this updates what you used automatically.

Fast entry

Add an item without filling out a form

Start typing and Cheekful knows what you mean, typos and all (“mlik” still finds milk), with your usual staples waiting at the top. It automatically fills in where the item belongs and how long it typically lasts, so you only tap to confirm or change a detail.

Smart Add

Unpack a whole grocery haul at once

Just back from a big shop? Snap a photo of your receipt or type a quick note like “2 gallons of milk, out of ketchup, used 2 eggs.” Cheekful figures out what you bought, what ran out, and where each item goes, then lets you review the list before anything is saved.

Household

Stop being the only one who knows

Cheekful works great on your own, and even better when you share the load. Send an invite link to anyone who shops or cooks with you so everyone sees the same shelves, the same grocery list, and the same “we're out of coffee” the moment someone finishes it.

Updates sync automatically when you're online and keep working smoothly when you're not.

  • Invite with a link. No shared passwords or setup hoops.
  • Whoever stops at the store sees what's low or empty without texting you first.
  • Saved on your phone first, so it opens instantly even without store Wi-Fi.

Small wins

Celebrate the food you actually use

Cheekful keeps one simple counter on your Home screen: how many days it's been since anything went in the trash. No badges, no guilt trips, and no made-up dollar savings. If something goes bad, the counter resets and you move on.

Who it's for

Keeping track of what's in the house is hard

Someone finishes the milk and leaves the carton on the shelf. Or you're standing in aisle four trying to remember if there's still pesto at home, and come back with jar number four. Or you open the crisper on Friday and find a bag of spinach you swore you'd cook.

Whiteboards go stale, spreadsheets feel like a second job, and a plain grocery list only knows what you remembered to write down. Cheekful gives you a quick way to mark what's low the moment you spot it, whether you're cooking for one or feeding a whole household.

How it works

Up and running in a couple of minutes

  1. Pick your usual staples

Start right away without creating an account. Tap the basics you always keep on hand, or snap a photo of your latest grocery receipt to stock your shelves in one go.

  2. Tap levels as you cook

Spot the olive oil getting low or finish the last egg? Update it in two seconds while you're already in the kitchen. No measuring cups, no barcodes, and no logging every meal.

  3. Shop and cook from what's there

Head to the store with a list that already knows what ran out, and get dinner ideas that use up fresh food before it spoils.

Why we made this

Made by two people tired of tossing groceries and ordering takeout

We kept coming home with duplicate jars of things we already owned, throwing out produce we forgot was in the crisper, and ordering takeout on nights when the fridge was actually full. Spreadsheets felt like a chore, and other apps wanted us to scan every barcode in the house.

So we built Cheekful for our own kitchen. It takes seconds to keep up, respects your privacy, and never nags you to keep a streak alive. We're August Fog Studios, a husband-and-wife product studio in San Francisco.

Questions, answered

Do I have to track every single thing I use?

No. You don't need to log every splash of milk or clove of garlic. Just update things when you happen to spot they're getting low or empty while cooking or putting groceries away. If you skip a week, nothing breaks and nothing nags you to catch up.

Do I need my partner or housemates to use it too?

Not at all. Cheekful is designed to save you time and money even if you're the only one using it. When you're ready to share, send an invite link to anyone who shops or cooks with you so they can see what's low or empty without texting you from the store.

How is this different from a shared grocery list app?

A regular grocery list only knows what someone remembered to write down. It doesn't know what's already sitting in your fridge, freezer, or pantry. Cheekful connects the two: marking an item low or empty at home suggests it for your grocery list, and checking it off at the store puts it right back into your kitchen.

Do I have to scan barcodes?

No. Loose produce, farmers' market finds, and leftovers don't have barcodes anyway. In Cheekful, you can tap from common staples, type a quick note like "2 gallons of milk, out of ketchup," or snap a photo of your grocery receipt.

Do I need an account?

No. You can skip sign-in and start using Cheekful right away. Whenever you want to back up your kitchen for a new phone or share it with your household, you can save it to an account with Apple, Google, or a one-time email code without losing anything you added.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Your kitchen lives on your phone, so you can check your shelves, update levels, shop your grocery list, and cook saved recipes with zero cell signal. Changes sync automatically once you're back online. Only the optional AI features, like receipt scanning, recipe import, and meal ideas, need an internet connection.

When can I get it?

Cheekful isn't on the App Store or Google Play yet. The buttons on this page will turn into download links the day the store listings go live. Whatever Cheekful ends up costing, we'll state it plainly before you're ever asked to pay.

What happens to my data?

Your kitchen, grocery lists, and recipes are stored on your phone and synced to our servers so your household stays in step. We don't sell your data, show ads, or bundle analytics trackers. Optional AI features only send the specific text or photo you submit for that request.

Which phones does it run on?

iPhone and Android. On Android, your grocery list is also available as a home-screen widget.

Start with one shelf today

You don't have to catalog your whole house to get value out of Cheekful. Add the handful of things you buy every week, see what's running low before your next grocery run, and keep more of your food out of the trash.
